A gentleman should always be prepared to pay on each occasion, however one should also be equally prepared to concede, such as in the following situations:

1. If the lady or other half is adamant they must pay their way

2. If it is your birthday or a special occasion whereby they want to make a gesture of paying for you

3. If you’re both trying to introduce a ‘take-it-in-turns’ approach.
