Taking a Telephone Message Etiquette

Taking a Telephone Message Etiquette

Should you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to answer a telephone call that is not for you, then one should be mindful of the etiquette in such situations.

Try and refrain from going into vast detail about the whereabouts of the person who the caller is ringing for, responses such as “Sadly Constance can’t take your call at present, she’s holed up in the bathroom and judging by the noises resonating from that general direction she may be there sometime.”

We would however recommend informing the caller that the desired individual is currently unavailable and if they would like to leave a message. When taking down the message make sure that you write the name and number of the indivdual calling and a brief summary of the subject of the call should they give it.

Always make sure you leave the message somewhere that it will be picked up and read, in this case perhaps sliding it under Constance’s bathroom door.
